How It Works

A Perkins Brailler has 6 keys, one for each dot in a Braille cell. Press keys simultaneously (hold them down together), then release to emboss the character.

Dot Layout

Braille cells have 6 dots in a 2x3 grid:

  1 o  o 4
  2 o  o 5
  3 o  o 6

Left hand (S D F) controls dots 3, 2, 1.
Right hand (J K L) controls dots 4, 5, 6.

Other Keys

Space — Insert blank space
Backspace — Delete last character
Enter — New line
Escape — Close this guide
